Aviation Exhaust Soot
Posted by Isaac Wilke on Oct 20th 2022
It's not something that is going away anytime soon, carbon exhaust soot and oil are a burden when cleaning or detailing any aircraft. If kept up with it shouldn't get as bad as the picture above, but that's where Release comes in. Here's the how-to on cleaning the carbon exhaust off your aircraft. Let's #GetClean.
First, get your hands on Release Aviation Cleaner. There's a couple great ways depending on your need. The most cost effective way is to purchase Release Ultra Concentrate and dilute it to a 1:20 mixture. With one gallon of Release Ultra, you can dilute eighty 32oz containers of Release 1:20 for just $1.12 per refill. It's hard to find value like that now days. There's also a more convenient route of buying Release ready to use or Release wipes from our website. Our Release wipes are super saturated and contain the same concentration as our ready to use formula.
Now that you have Release, gather any other cleaning supplies you may need such as microfiber cloths, paper towels, spray bottles for mixing Release, a camera for before and after pictures and a headlamp to see what you are cleaning (optional). The reason why you should use a 1:20 dilution of Release is because it contains the highest amount of dissolved solids that will associate with the carbon soot on your airplane. Grease, carbon, and oil tend to build up over time and need a heavy duty cleaner like Release to remove them from the surface.
It's time to clean! Spray your diluted Release onto the surface enough to saturate the area you want to clean. Let sit for approximately 3-4 minutes. For tough soils, you may need to let sit longer or do multiple applications to completely remove all the carbon soot and grease. Use your microfiber cloth to agitate the soot and work Release into the soil. Wipe off Release and the soot. Sometimes I will follow up with a lower dilution such as a 1:40 to ensure I get every last bit of dirt and grime off the plane. Ensure that all of the Release is off the surface to leave a shine on your aircraft. Make sure to follow up with a dry microfiber to accomplish this look. Want to see this done?
